In the old days tattoos were permanent and if you wanted to get rid of it you could either have it changed to look like something else or learn to live with that decision made under the influence of tequila shots, Jell-O shooters or that hot two week love affair. These days you have a few choices to make on what method to be used to get rid of that tat. Every tattoo has unique characteristics so removal techniques must be tailored to suit each individual case.

Professionally inked tattoos usually penetrate the deeper layers of the skin at more uniform depths. This allows methods that remove broader areas of inked skin at the same depth. Amateurs cannot duplicate the uniformity of depth so homemade tattoos are usually applied at more varying depths making removal more difficult. If you have decided that for some reason, you just gotta get rid of that body art, the choices are:

1. Laser Surgery

2. Intense Pulsed Light

3. Dermabrasion

4. Surgical Excision

5. Salabrasion

6. Removal Creams

7. Cover-up

Laser Surgery

The use of lasers is currently considered the most effective non invasive, bloodless removal alternative. A high-intensity laser beam is targeted on the imbedded ink by a surgeon where he directs high intensity pulses to break up the pigment. The laser is applied with micro-second lasting pulses and it takes about 200 pulses for a small tattoo. The laser energy causes the tattoo pigment to vaporize into smaller particles that are then removed by the body's immune system. Laser surgery is relatively low risk, pain free and effective with the least side effects. Multiple treatments are normally required. Expect to experience minor pain similar to the original tattooing experience. The lasers high energy vaporizing the ink under your skin will cause sensations similar to specs of hot grease. It usually takes more than one treatment which only takes a few minutes.

Intense Pulsed Light

Pulsed Light Therapy is the most recent development in tattoo removal. This method uses high intensity light instead of lasers' to vaporize the ink. After applying a gel a wand is aimed at the tattoo that emits high intensity light pulses. One the plus side this method is less painful and more effective but is much more expensive than laser removal.

Dermabrasion

Basically dermabrasion consist of freezing the removal area of skin and the top layers are sanded off to remove the inked area. This is done with a high speed rotary sanding type device. You will need at least a local or some other type of anesthetic, hey; you are getting your skin sanded off! There will also be some bleeding and a dressing will need to be applied. After the affected area heals the scarring will depend on an individuals own body and what the location on your body the tattoo was on.

Surgical Excision

This removal method is nothing more than having a dermatologic surgeon use a scalpel to remove the inked skin and closing up the wound with stitches. This is ok for small tattoos on certain parts of the body. It is even possible to remove larger areas and graft skin from other parts of the body. Again you will need an anesthetic to numb the area but scaring will be limited to the sutured area and is usually minimal. This method results in the most complete and immediate removal of tattoo ink.

Salabrasion

This is the oldest and crudest tattoo removal technique. I has been used for a few hundred years and is still occasionally used today. Local anesthetic consisting of tap water dipped in table salt is applied on the tattooed area. An abrading device like the one used with dermabrasion, or an even something simpler like a wooden block wrapped with gauze, is used to scrape the area. After the tattooed area gets deep red, it is covered up with bandages to heal. This is the preferred method selected by the biggest and baddest biker dudes and those lucky few who can drive nails through their hands and not feel it. Tattoo removal creams

Removal creams have varying degrees of success much of which is dependent on the individual tattoo characteristics, depth of ink, type of ink and individuals body chemistry. Henna tattoos are an ancient custom in India: girls and women are body painted before ceremonies, like marriage. They painted complicated patterns on their hands and feet to symbolize their fertility.
Henna (or 'Mehndi', the Indian name) is made from the henna plant (Lawsonia Inermis). The powder gets mixed with water and you get a sort of green-brownish mud. If you put that mud on your skin, let it harden, and then peel it off, you will notice it has left an orange color.
You can get your henna at an eastern shop or a 'souk' in many different colors. There's orange, mahogany, brown and black. The orange one is the traditional henna. The black henna is synthetic. It contains PDD (P-phenylenediamene) and can cause allergic reactions. Even if it doesn't cause irritations, it's still unhealthy. Regardless of whether your new body art is an arm, back, or foot tattoo, you want to follow the same tattoo care guidelines as outlined below.

After receiving a new tattoo, your artist will apply an ointment, usually A&D, and wrap your tattoo in saran wrap or a medical bandage. This is to keep any foreign materials out of the tattoo. A new tattoo is a wound, an abrasion on the skin, and can be prone to infection proper tattoo care is not followed. Remove the bandage from your new tattoo after at least 4 hours (but no more than 12). Do not soak the tattoo. Rinse it well, and pat it dry, then allow it to air-dry for 5-10 minutes before applying ointment. The healing tattoo should never stay submerged in water. Do not re-bandage your tattoo after taking the original bandage off, the skin will need to breathe. If you notice small itchy liquid filled bumps appearing after using a certain product, immediately discontinue use, wash the tattoo and let it dry out.

Proper tattoo care requires that you do not wear anything that will rub against your new tattoo. A foot tattoo may require a touch up, due to the rubbing abuse from walking and wearing shoes prematurely.

When the tattoo has fully entered the peeling phase you should stop applying the ointment. Avoid creams and lotions that contain fragrances, artificial colors and other unnecessary ingredients that can irritate a healing tattoo. If you have applied proper tattoo care you should not develop scabs. If scabs develop, they can remove the color beneath them. Never pick or pull the scab.

Your new tattoo is an open wound so refrain from actions such as swimming, tanning, removing the bandage early. Be sure to follow these proper tattoo care guidelines to ensure your foot tattoo heals properly. Redness and sometimes bruising surrounding a new foot tattoo is normal for the first day or two, but if you notice any bumps or increasing redness please contact your local tattoo studio for more information.

1. Autoclave - an autoclave is used in hospitals to sterilize equipment. It uses heat, steam, and pressure to kill every organism on the equipment. It usually takes about an hour for an autoclave to run a cycle from a cold start to effectively kill all organisms. The tattoo artist should first clean the equipment and then place it in a special pouch before placing it in the autoclave. The needle bar and tube are reusable pieces of equipment that must be sterilized before each use.

2. Single Use Items

Single use items should be used only once so that the chances of cross contamination are eliminated. The single use items include:

Most of these items are purchased in sterile packaging that should be opened in front of you just before the artist begins work.

3. Sharps/Biohazard Container

Used needles and objects that have come into contact with blood or bodily fluids should be disposed of in a sharps/biohazard container.

4. A universal container for any ointment, ink, water, etc. should not be used especially if any of these items have been removed from the container to be used on a client.

5. Some studios are required by law to have a sink in the work area supplied with both hot and cold water. Getting a tattoo is very safe if you choose your studio wisely.

Well, I don't really believe that anyone who doesn't have a tattoo is just plain afraid of needles.

There could be many reasons why a person doesn't want to get tattooed.

A few reasons why a person still doesn't have tattoos:

1.The person is not too much into fashion and doesn't like to follow the latest and greatest hype taking place.

2. The person is unable to decide on a tattoo design which he/she likes. I even know of a famous artist who is not getting herself tattooed just because she was unable to decide on a tattoo she likes. She finally said that she would get a few temporary tattoos.

3. The person cant stick with one tattoo for their lives as he easily gets bored. Maybe they don't know about temporary tattoos yet!

I don't have anything to say to people in option 1 as they don't want a tattoo. But for those who do want a tattoo and cant decide on a certain tattoo design I could just recommend that they get a temporary tattoo for themselves.

For some unknown reason foot tattoos seem to be growing in popularity. A lot more people, mainly women are heading to local tattoo studios and getting tattoos on their feet. First of all, not all tattoo artist will tattoo your feet. Mainly, because your feet are more often than not covered up by socks and shoes and the friction of all of that rubbing up against your tattoo causes it to fade really quickly.

Secondly, if you are dead set on getting a tattoo on your foot than maybe you should go with a black ink tattoo. The black ink doesn't seem to fade as fast as the color ink and it will cost less, which is another added plus. Also foot tattoos are probably one of the most painful places you can receive a tattoo on your body. So if you don't have high pain tolerance, I would suggest not getting a tattoo on your foot and maybe go with the inside of your ankle. Lastly, if you are planning on getting a foot tattoo it might be better to wait until the warmer months arrive so you can wear flip flops while your tattoos is healing. Believe me the last thing you want is socks and or shoes rubbing up against a new tattoo, because it causes a lot of discomfort and all the rubbing will not let your tattoo heal properly.

Insert the needle into the tube. Then decapitate the toothbrush. Then, use your adhesive of choice to join the tube/needle combo to the long end of the L. Gently push the eraser onto the motor's shaft, getting it as centered as possible, then attach the motor to the short end of the L. Stick the bent end of the guitar string should be pushed (off center) into the eraser, and the other end should go through the tube and attached to the needle.
